Dinner & a Movie

TROMPERIE DOULOUREUSE
Movie Inspiration: The Great Gatsby (2013)

Artist Statement:

This piece is focused on beautiful deceit. Things are not always what we believe them to be. Each object is thought out and placed carefully. People will deceive others for multiple things but I focused on personal gain. Lavish lifestyles are few and far between. We claw our way to the top. When I see something beautiful, I assume that the inside is beautiful as well. Beautiful people are given the benefit of the doubt. Chance after chance, we let the people we love deceive us. The piece is very feminine and delicate at first glance. As you look on, it becomes seductive and precise. Each step is carefully planned out. In the end, it holds a very intimidating sinister tone. It is the physical representation of someone planning to deceive another. In this piece it is specifically a woman. Women can be cruel. We use what we have to our advantage. There is opposition present; it is a battle between right and wrong. Without fail, the weight leans toward wrong. It is painful to be deceived by something so beautiful.
